Purpose of personal data processing

Privacy statement of the Pääkaupunkiseudun Kierrätyskeskus Oy (hereafter Kierrätyskeskus). The primary basis for processing of personal data is the use of the Kierrätyskeskus’ services or the user’s voluntary consent. If you do not accept the practices in accordance with this privacy statement, we do not recommend that you hand over your personal data to Kierrätyskeskus.

We process your personal data for the following purposes:

  • For maintenance, treatment and development of the customer relationship between Kierrätyskeskus and the customer
  • For carrying out competitions and campaigns
  • For loyalty member newsletters
  • To provide, carry out and maintain Kierrätyskeskus’ services regarding e.g. stores, education, pickup/delivery and online store

Regular sources of information 

Personal data is collected from the registrant themself, and when they register to use Kierrätyskeskus’ services or participate in Kierrätyskeskus’ campaigns or giveaways. Personal data can be updated from the Population Information System, trade register and other possible public sources.

The number of website visitors and other general anonymous information is monitored using web analytics (Google Analytics) and cookies or other similar technology.

Third-party plug-in services on the pages (e.g. advertisements, YouTube videos, Google statistics or Facebook plug-ins) may store information used to identify the user, which unfortunately we cannot control. If you want to prevent them from tracking your movements online, you can disable the so-called third-party cookies in your browser settings. You can find instructions on your browser’s help pages.

Regular disclosures

As a rule, Kierrätyskeskus does not sell or otherwise pass on your personal data.

Kierrätyskeskus may use subcontractors and service providers to maintain its services, analyse user data, communicate with customers and carry out deliveries. Your personal data may be disclosed to subcontractors and service providers of Kierrätyskeskus only to the extent that they participate in the implementation of the services and the implementation of the purposes described in this privacy statement.

Data transfer outside the EU and EEA 

Kierrätyskeskus strives to implement services and process personal data using operators and services located in the EU or EEA area.

However, in some cases, the services may also use actors, services and servers located elsewhere, and in this case your personal data may be transferred between different countries. In this case, Kierrätyskeskus ensures an adequate level of personal data protection.

Principles of registry protection 

In information systems, information security is ensured by technical and organisational measures, such as restricting access rights, firewalls, data protection software, an active network monitoring system and making use of encryption technologies.

Manually recorded data is kept in locked rooms, to which only relevant persons have access into. In connection with the processing of personal data, unnecessary personal data is deleted through a shredder or security paper containers.

Personal data retention period

Personal data is stored only as long as it is necessary, e.g. for the duration of the customer relationship. We consider the customer relationship ended 36 months after the last customer transaction, such as a purchase transaction at any Kierrätyskeskus store. After this, we delete all personal data from our systems, unless legislation requires a longer storage period.

Right of inspection, prohibition and correction

The registered person has the right to check what personal data concerning them has been stored in the register. The inspection request is free of charge once a year. The inspection request must be sent signed to this address:

The inspection request should mention:

  • Name
  • Personal ID number
  • Registry name (Kierrätyskeskus customer register)

The registered person has the right to prohibit the processing and disclosure of information about them for direct advertising, distance selling and other direct marketing as well as market and opinion surveys by contacting Kierrätyskeskus at rekisteriasiat@kierratyskeskus.fi. Please note that the request must come from the same email address that Kierrätyskeskus has in its register.

We will correct or delete incorrect, unnecessary or incomplete personal data upon request. Send mail to rekisteriasiat@kierratyskeskus.fi. Please note that the request must come from the same email address that the correction request applies to.

If it is not possible to send an e-mail from the original address, the request is made in writing and signed to the address in the “Contact information” section of the privacy statement.

If you notice shortcomings in the processing, or it is illegal, you have the right to file a complaint with the data protection authority.
